About reaction time
What is a good reaction time?
The average human reaction time to a visual stimulus is around 250 ms. Under 200 ms is excellent (close to trained athletes), 250–300 ms is good, and above 400 ms usually means you're tired or distracted. Touchscreens and mice add a few milliseconds of hardware latency.
What affects reaction time?
Sleep, caffeine, age, screen refresh rate and practice all matter. Reaction time is fastest when you're rested and focused — try testing at different times of day to find your peak.
How can I improve?
Short, frequent practice sessions train your brain to anticipate the stimulus without jumping the gun. Watch for false starts: anticipating the green gives an invalid result.
